Rig Boat and kicker upgrade

An early start to get parked up as it was going to be a sunny warm day.

rigged boat ready so that i could see the kicker in the correct place, i removed the first part and boom strop.

replaced with a new 60mm loop and 240mm loop and placed under the eylet after eventually borrowing a philips screwdriver.

i had 2 harken 29mm blocks spliced already, as it was easier to pratice at home. all i knew was all 3 ropes had to go around the mast and be spliced.

i had done 2 but couldnt work out how to do the third, eventually i tried it as a 16/1 and it worked fine. when i got ho9me i watched the vid again and worked what i had done wrong

i am more confident rigging the boat now , its all pratice , but it all works now. only had the boat since Feb 2020 lol

NewQuay YC Frostbite 23rd Jan 2022

An 8am start to head for NewQuay YC  for the first race of the frostbite series.

weather was 5deg brrrrr , boat was rigged after the briefing with lines joined in the sand and rock for bouys and wood for the pier  lol

i was having trouble working out what lines went where after my last sail on the d zero back late August. eventually i got it sort of right apart frpm putting the rudder over the traveller   luckily the safety boay was on hand to help , all sorted i headed out in lightish winds and flat seas.

race 1 a reasonable start to follow 2 laser around the first mark, an ongoing duel between Martins son and me ensued with him getting 2nd on water after a muffed mark rounding at the leeward mark.

race 2  a better start following the weta tri , came out in a good position to overtake the tri and then almost overtake the lead laser 1100py  mine 1029.

we only did 2 laps but at the end Martin pipped me by 1 min

R1 4th 28M30

R2 2nd  18M30 3rd overall

Afterwards a rewarding pint of guiness and soup and rolls in the club house

Mutley #93 goes to New Quay YC

Good timing was key to get Mutley93 to its beach berth in NewQuay

Low tide was at 4pm and it was dropping anhour or so before

with the car loaded with what i needed we set off for its new home.

nothing came undone this time.  we parked on the jetty and quickly unloaded Mutley on wheeling it down the large stone slip the trolley wheel decided to come off after losing its pin .

with a screwdriver in place i dragged the boat along the foreshore to where it had to go, however the wheels where not the best for soft sand.

the new cover was unfolded and Mutley tucked away in its new spot

with a celebration icecream we made our way home. the road trailer was now very light and bounced all the way home .

New Quay Yacht Club

well the 2022 adventure was well under way, ive joined NewQuay Yacht club to sail  the D Zero. also do crewing for the cruisers.

having been ripped off by the parking machine above the harbour i went to meet Peter to see the club. it was decided about the beach for the boat and then about cruisers needing crew , so Carl and Wendy got me on board asap.

i will aim to sail Dzero midweek and cruiser race any other time

things looking up as its a great venue to sail at

Mutley93 escapes the flood

october 1st the rains had been going for some time and the waterlevel was already on the foreshore, with more rain over saturday and Sunday i decided to make a mad dash in the car to collect Mutley93  roads were busy but it had to be done , a good trip up and ventured down the lane side of the lake to see the views.

we arrived at 6pm and were done by 7pm ,all was tied down well or so we thought.

at Aberystwyth rbt to head home the lightboard came off so we pulled over tried to fix it back on. a few other things ad we were on our way.

the trolley needs bolting down as it judders on bumps , lightboard needs better pintle brackets.

Maiden sail Mutley93

well the big day arrived, with a d zero open and comet nationals at the club all weekend it was time to sail Mutley93 however a covid problem canceled the event but club racing could still go ahead the boats that had arrived were ok to sail as well as club members, the boat was rigged and then found i had left the tiller extension in the van, one of the d zero guys Nigel lent me his as he was in the comet nationals. with the oat ready i set sail and looked forward to some good racing, i was surprised how responsive the boat was. a few shaky gybes before the start i headed off at the back of fleet but started catching boats one by one. the wind picked up in places during race 2 and some good battles took place. my tiller and mainsheet coordination was a problem but soon got used to the correct way two races done and 2 hours on the water i was knackered with the boat position u had to be in .race 3 i missed but needed to have food and drink to recover. very pleased how it went.
