first rig at home

 after a feeble attempt to rig the boat myself i had to call David Valentine to ask what rope went where

pictures were not enough so we had to go to a vid call which did the trick.

after 20 mins it was all sorted. after the call it promptly threw it down with rain and i got soaked.

about an hour later i went out and put it all away.

Mutley 96 is prov sold welcome Mutley 93

 mutley96 is provisional sold, the transfer to take place ina few more weeks to Gareth at Bedford.

so Mutley96 is at home until then but the new adventure began today 

with the purchase of A DEVOTI D ZERO #93 /117 from D Bailey Tewksbury S.C 

the 93 is a personal sail number but the boat is number 117.

hoping to have its first outing in the next week or so. watch this space  

the long trip started at 0630 heading to Aberystwyth and then main a44 all the way to Rydar and then onto Hereford, the trip was good and we made good time in the van.

we arrived at the club at 0940 so made some good time on the planned 1000 meetup

not having set up the satnav we went a completely different way home via M50 then eventually Abergavenny and then Brecon , with stops got home 1425  so pretty good going in some horrible wet conditions.

ERL goes home

finally sorted a time to recover "ERL" from bala s.c
starting out at 7am the treck to bala started.
getting the mast down went very good with kathleen assisting. everything went really well. a rewarding breakfast from adam at lake view cafe and some cake as well.
a quick walk to the camp site to sort a few things and the trip home began .
next step a quick checkover and then off to Tresaith sc

Bala long distance race 22nd june 2019

the long distance race started off with next to no wind
i decided to sail the A class for it first trip out . with the boat all rigged with help from prev owner mike allen we waited for a 1pm start  sun was out and a long 4hr race was ahead.
the wind was all over the place but good progress was made down the whole of the lake to a mark close to the bottom as they could
at one point i was 5th on the water but rounded in 11th
i then slipped down the order in flukey down winds the boat was responsive and was nice to sail.
i lost my d18 worlds hat but it was picked up by the safety crew.
it was hot and at the end of the day was drained. a barbecue followed at 630pm  i had one pint of purple moose snowdonia ale and that was me done. i had to move van and teardrop trailer in the campsite, when i led down fir a rest that was it
i didn't go back to club as planned as i was very dehydrated.

Duty day at Bala 26th May 2019

Richard on his Unicorn first race

forecast was not good the trip up was wet
called into the cafe for a breakfast which was fantastic and filled me up
then helped richard loadhis dart 15 which was sold and got to see Mutley 96.
after that it was over to the Bridge to get sorted for duty
headed out into a quite choppy lake.
course was X  Then Dp 7p  As Xs
wind was dying but with a few gusts
in the afternoon the champions helm series the same course and a bit of go pro footage as well.
enjoyed the day but no crew on the rib made it boring
after a good shower and viewing of the a class and all loaded up in car it was then the 1h 40 min drive home in sunshine.

Old Salty SOLD

Old Salty has been sold due to personal circumstances during 2017 and ongoing into 2018
he will stay at Swanage and was bought out by John Russ who had a share in it.

27th May boat repair

on arriving at Swanage to sail "ERL" i noticed the boat was rather heavy and could hear water moving. when i checked the rear bung alot of water came out.
after checking the boat the port gunwhale nr the trolley support was split for about a foot.
boat was tipped on its side and the  affending area prepped to allow some isopan p40 filler to be applied.  using a soni worx cutting tool to remove all the old prev repair the old owner must have done
the fibreglass soon went off and manged to rub it down as well using a sanding pad on the same tool. need s more finnish work to clean up but hopefully done the job

Old Salty goes to Swanage

early start as always to get to swanage
armed with some back boxs and stands to get old salty underneath "ERL"
0830 a cool breezy NE about 10knts, felt very cold, dragged the boat and kit down to the boat, used the boards i made to get the laser over the gap which is made for the new whinch.
placed the rear boxs under "ERL" and tied the boat to them and then did the front props,
needs a bit more wood to make it more stable. but boat did go underneath with ease
tied it all down and then rigged the boat so its ready to use
didnt feel like sailing in the end so everything put away for the drive home.

Old Salty goes home

well after finally getting out of bed to go to swanage, i arrived around 11am
i looked out to sea and though no, then alan knowles said go for it  friday social sailing.
i tok the boat to the carpark to pack it away, and then whilst doing it and putting all the booms away i rigged and was on the water by 1145. sailed with alan and had the best sail so far on the laser so far.
after over 45 mins we came in and then i packed the boat away.
home by 330pm
glad i did, makes it more enjoyable when you do something you didnt think you would

6th AUGUST

after doing some remedial work on the boat ie ropes and toestraps i went for an early morning sail in good wind. went and sailed under ballard only to lose the wind when i looked down to old harry. the tide was getting me and making me drift further fromt he bay. i flagged down a jetski who towed me back into the bay where the wind was ok again, and picked up leter so that i could sail MBM with Peter. 4.3nm in 2hrs and some of that behind a jetski  lol
the boat went well.
Mbm is now off the stands and the laser goes under neath ok  like it did at Weston.

09 06 2016

went to swanage early to rig old salty so that Lorna could see the boat rigged.
we are going 50/50 on the boat so it gets used.
in the week a new refurbished centreboard was bought on ebay for £100
was in very good condition.
wind at swanage was dying all day and a fog  so came home after.

well the boat stands were made in the week so the dart 18 could sit on top. and old salty sit underneath.
6th may was the move day and greeted at swanage by sun rather than the forcast over cast.
the stands were installed and all the bottom filled with sand and pebbles. the boat was then put on top and then pratised taking on and off,
old salty was then rigged and eventually about 445pm sailed or rather drifted past the pier.
